Yesterday I was looking for the new red wedding dress designs to report back my finds. As I was reading random bride magazines and perusing the fashion pages, I got diverted by a series of red dresses that were made for flower girls, not brides.

Red flower girl dresses are actually a lot easier to find than bridal dresses. This is because there are hundreds of fancy little girl dresses made for pageants, Easter parties etc. The flower girl dresses, in fact, were so cute that I had to write an entire article devoted to them.

When I first started planning my wedding, sometime in the womb, I always had an image of the little flower girl in the white dress with white rose petals thrown from her basket as I walked down the aisle. When I was 25, I thought my nieces would take that roll. My wedding ended up being black and white themed with my husband’s nieces as the flower girls. My nieces were my bridesmaid and junior bridesmaids. Nothing ever works out how you think it will. And as I’ve often said, I think women should get more than one wedding in their lifetime. I want a red themed wedding! Yes that statement is made after seeing these adorable kids in their little white dresses with red ribbons and sashes.

When choosing my bridesmaids I could see the terror on their faces. It’s a testament to my judgment that I realized, right away, the problem was that they were worried about the horrible dresses they were going to be first to wear. Letting them know they could decide which dresses they wanted, with a few tips from me, was a great relief to them. When I asked the little girls to be flower girls, they got this dreamy look and immediately began throwing imaginary flowers from their imaginary baskets. They did this every time they saw me for the year before the wedding. Being a flower girl is definitely a dream come true for most little girls, and I can understand why. I had a wedding because I wanted to celebrate… oh that’s a lie, I had a wedding so I could wear a pretty dress and be a princess. The same reason little girls love to be flower girls.

I encourage brides to go lavish when it comes to your bridesmaids. If you’re planning a red wedding, you’ll want to think carefully about using a red flower girl dress or a white one with red accents. There are plenty of choices for either style. There are even a mixture of reds and other colors that might be perfect if your red wedding is red and green or red and blue etc. Remember that little girls love frilly, shiny and lacy dresses, but they also love things like tiaras, veils and other pieces that are perfect for a wedding venue. The best part is that none of it needs to be expensive. Most girls are happy with little toy store dress up pieces.

There are hundreds of ways to accessorize the Red flower girl dresses as well. Adding a sash in the secondary color of the wedding is one way, but there are things like little purses instead of baskets of petals that work equally well. If you’re planning a more modern theme, the purse might work a whole lot better. If you do use a basket, think about decorating the outside in your red wedding flowers styles.
